THE JUNCTION ART SESSION
THE JUNCTION ART SESSION
HOTEL TUGU BALI
24 -27 AUGUST 2006
This year’s edition of The Junction will include a special ‘Art Session’, dedicated to the exploration of how music can act as a source of inspiration for other art forms. It is an honor for The Junction 2006 to present special editions of the works of two leading Indonesian urban artists whose visual arts have redefined our appreciation of the potential synergy between music and painting: EKO and EBBY (aka Fabian Nusi). During the festival, Eko and Ebby will reside at the Tugu Hotel, where they will create a new collection of their works, inspired by the spirit and the music of The Junction.
Ebby (a.k.a. Fabian Nusi)
Commercial foray on one side, personal idealism on the other and nothing in between, right? Not for Ebby. After quitting a successful 14-year career in advertising to become a full-fledged DJ and street artist, Ebby finally has proven that there can be a balance between the two sides. A voracious music collector since his teens, Ebby decided to become a professional DJ back in 2001, playing anything from jazz and afro funk to house and broken beats, he has been spinning one open-minded set after another at fashionable venues like Parc, Paparazzi, Prego, Cinnabar, Circa and Dragonfly, as well as prestigious events such as the Java Jazz Festival. A passion for eclecticism that Ebby has not confined to his music but that rather defines the nature of his broader artistic impulses, as testified by the fact that he can be found these days splitting his time between DJ-ing, creating street culture-inspired works of art, and independent graphic designing, with appreciation coming from the work he has pursued in all three areas.
EKO
Born in Denpasar, Bali, Eko Priharseno has been fascinated by arts since the age of 6 years old. Since then, his parents - his father is a musician and his mother a housewife who loves paintings - have always encouraged him to never shy away from whole-heartedly engaging the world of arts. Eko chose to study industrial design at Trisakti University, Jakarta, because he was fond of product design and transportation. His extensive social interaction over the years with designer colleagues, artists, influenced his art and helped shaped his unique design style, which harmoniously blends pure art technique, graphics, industry and music. Eko is now renowned in Jakarta’s thriving artistic panorama as a painter, graphic and industrial product designer, as well as DJ. All his art is a product of a creative imagination that recognizes no boundaries; one that has the power to swell in all directions, unpredictably, sizzling with verve. Eko does not like being static. Restless, his mind cannot sit still, always experimenting with something new, constantly rearticulating concepts, techniques and impressions. He is easily stirred and gets excited by external influences that lead him to voraciously absorb, process, and produce.
